About the Author

In 2004 I was invited to deliver training in the Women Returning to Work Program sponsored by the ACT Department of Education with funds provided by the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Over 4 separate courses I delivered training to women from all walks of life, educational background, socio-economic circumstance and ethnic origin. Some had psychological and physical disabilities. All had been out of the workforce for more than 12 months, or never in it.

Including competencies leading to Certificate II in Business, I covered non-certificate topics such as CV preparation, application letter writing, interview strategies and how to handle situations in the modern work environment.

During the program participants conducted skills audits discovering hidden talents and strengths and compiled CVs. I would go home each night filled with tales of wondrous discoveries and events and the excitement generated within each group. My spouse said "Why don't you write a book about it?" It was an "Ah ha" moment so here it is.

Many men and women face re-entering the job market after receiving unexpected redundancies. Without training to conduct skills audits, compile CVs, write application letters (or fill out forms) and think about strategies to cope with interviews it's hard.

Those issues are covered in my book as they were in my training courses. My strategies and techniques were successfully used by my students to good effect. Many of the women secured employment during and after the course. Many participants have told me of their successes using my techniques. I know this book works for men and women embarking on that risky journey.
